Starting August 1, 2025, the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) implemented mandatory VAT compliance for non-resident digital service providers (DSPs).
The VAT on Digital Services (VDS) Portal and the Online Registration and Update System are now fully operational and required for foreign DSPs. Also, a new VAT return, Form 2550-DS, must be filed by these DSPs.

On June 4, 2025, Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen signed LB415, which amends the Nebraska Healthy Workplaces and Families Act (“HWFA”) going into effect on October 1, 2025. Initially passed via ballot initiative in November 2024, the HWFA mandates paid sick leave for most employers and employees in the state: 40 hours per year for employers with between 11 and 19 employees, and 56 hours per year for employers with 20 or more employees.

In early August 2025, a panel convened by Japan’s Labour Ministry recommended a 6% increase in the national average minimum wage, marking the largest annual hike since the system was launched in 2002.
If adopted, the new minimum wage would rise to approximately ¥1,118 per hour (about USD 7.50), up from the previous level, surpassing last year’s 5% increase.
This follows the government's broader commitment to gradually raise minimum wages to ¥1,500 per hour by the end of the decade, an accelerated timeline announced by Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.
