By default, each employee added to the Lano platform is automatically assigned a Lano ID — a unique identifier generated by the system. This ID helps ensure secure and consistent communication between your business, Lano, and any payroll or EOR partners.
The Lano ID is:
Automatically generated when an employee is added
Used internally by Lano and external partners (e.g. payroll or EOR providers)
Not editable
You cannot change the Lano ID manually. It is system-generated to maintain data consistency and compliance across systems.
For convenience, Lano lets you display your Internal employee ID across the platform instead of the default Lano ID.
Go to Settings → Custom fields
Scroll to the Enable internal ID section
Switch on the toggle
Once enabled:
A new Internal ID field appears in each employee’s profile, just under the Lano ID.
The Internal ID will replace the Lano ID across all main views in the platform — including filters, search, and listings.
You’ll be able to search employees by their Internal ID.
To assign an Internal ID:
Go to the employee’s profile
In the IDs section, click Edit
Enter the ID in the Edit IDs modal
Click Save changes
The ID will now appear throughout the platform and in payroll documentation.
If your organization uses an integrated HRIS system, Internal IDs can be automatically imported and synced into Lano once the feature is enabled. To activate HRIS syncing or confirm your current setup, please reach out to customersuccess@lano.io
If you no longer want to use Internal IDs, you can disable the setting from Settings → Custom fields. Once disabled:
Internal IDs are no longer shown
The platform will display the original Lano ID across all views
