A lot has happened since we last sat down to bring you the top destinations in the world for remote work in 2021. A few waves of Covid later, and we thought it is about time to update our digital nomad list.
Of course, we had to keep Covid-19 restrictions in mind when curating this list, but we also wanted to focus on more positive aspects such as community hubs, co-working spaces, security, quality of life, and of course, the all-time stable of a fast internet connection.
So, without further ado, here they are: The top 5 destinations for remote work in 2022.
White beaches, warm weather, and an ever-growing community of expats and remote workers from all over the world - throw almost no travel restrictions into the mix, and you have a remote worker’s paradise!
Tulum has been a popular travel destination for the past years, due to its close proximity to well-known holiday destinations such as Playa del Carmen and Cancun, where American college students have celebrated their spring break for years.
Tulum, however, is a lot quieter and offers more than just a party-lifestyle: An ancient Mayan city, endless beaches, and an abundance of remote work necessities such as coworking spaces and coffee shops with free wifi.
Lisbon combines the joy of warm weather and beach life with the pleasures of a thriving European city. No wonder tech giant Google has chosen the Portuguese capital to set up a new office space.
But there is something else that makes Lisbon so popular among remote workers: The city’s great community spirit. There are large groups on social media platforms organising meetups and other events in an effort to get people together, no matter where they are from or why they have ended up in this city.
Coupled with affordable food and drink as well as accommodation options, we definitely understand why Lisbon has become such a focus point of the remote work community.
There are many reasons why the Chilean capital has made it on our list, but one of the most profound ones is their impressive front row ranking in the Bloomberg Covid resilience report: With high vaccination rates and a high GDP growth forecast in comparison to other countries, Chile has made it to rank 1 in the list.
In addition to Covid safety, Santiago also has a lot to offer when it comes to culture and arts, while being the center of the country’s entrepreneurial scene. This means that remote workers can benefit from the vibrancy of the city just as much as from the business networks and professional amenities.
Another island on our list, just not the typical beachy one. But after you have gotten used to the notoriously wet weather, you will not be disappointed by the mix of lifestyle and nature Ireland provides.
Ranking in 2nd spot in the Covid resilience report, Ireland offers everything a remote worker needs: The exciting city life and community of Dublin, which houses the main European offices for both Facebook and Google, among other big tech players, as well as beautiful nature that is only half a day’s roadtrip away.
Another destination that is currently growing in popularity is Dubai, one of the seven emirates in the United Arab Emirates. Not only is Dubai a modern and impressive city with all the amenities a remote worker could hope for, but it has also come out pretty unscathed by Covid, ranking 3rd in the Bloomberg Covid resilience ranking.
On top of that, Dubai has actually launched its own remote work program, trying to attract workers from all over the world to enjoy the lifestyle of the emirate. Their virtual program invites people to apply in exchange for a 12-month work visa that allows you to enter and (remote) work in Dubai.
